The DeadZone Protocol

For decades, military scientists have studied one question:
Can fear be eliminated from the human mind?
Fear is one of the body's most powerful survival mechanisms. It makes soldiers hesitate. It makes them retreat. It makes them question orders. It makes them vulnerable. But what if fear could be removed? What if soldiers could be trained, conditioned or altered to operate without it?
A soldier who feels no fear. A soldier who cannot panic. A soldier who does not hesitate. A soldier who simply keeps coming.
The military believed such a resource could become the ultimate weapon. And so, deep within a remote woodland, a secret research facility was established. Its purpose was known only to a handful of people and know as PROJECT DEADZONE.
The facility's scientists began experimenting with increasingly extreme methods of inducing and manipulating fear. Subjects were exposed to controlled psychological and physical stress. Fear was measured. Fear was amplified. Fear was suppressed.
The researchers recorded everything. At first, the results appeared promising. Some subjects began showing dramatically reduced fear responses. They stopped reacting to threats. They stopped experiencing panic. They stopped retreating. But then the researchers noticed something disturbing. The subjects weren't simply becoming fearless.
They were changing physically. Their behaviour became increasingly aggressive. Their responses became unpredictable. They became obsessed with the things that had once frightened them.
And eventually… they stopped responding to human commands altogether. The project was ordered to continue.

# THE INCIDENT
Then, at 02:17, everything changed. The facility's monitoring systems detected a simultaneous failure across multiple areas. Security personnel were dispatched. They never returned. The facility entered emergency lockdown. All external access points were sealed. Communications were terminated. And then a final transmission escaped the facility.

The facility has been silent ever since. Command now believes that some experimental subjects have escaped into the surrounding woodland and that they have one terrifying characteristic in common.
They have lost their humanity.
